Homemade facials can be an inexpensive alternative to purchased facial treatments and sometimes can be more fun since most people enjoy stirring up gooey concoctions or at least they did as children. Often spas promote their all natural facials using garden-fresh ingredients that are mixed up just for your appointment. Why not do the same thing at home, saving money, time, and having fun too!
Here are some natural skin care facial recipes that you can try on your own:

There is nothing that makes you feel more pampered then going to a spa for a facial. Being able to just lie on a table and let someone slather magical potions on your skin as you listen to ocean waves and a mini water fountain in the background is a little vacation and total escape from whatever was bothering you before you stepped into the spa.
Many women, either with children or full-time careers, find it difficult to make time for a spa treatment away from home and forego the rejuvinating benefits. However, an at-home facial can be just as relaxing aned rewarding if you follow these simple guidelines for a successful at home spa-treament.
- Set-up. Decide where is the best place to do your treament - usually a bathroom. Clean your bathroom to make sure it feels sparkling clean and spa-like. Hang up fresh towels, open the windows if weather permits; light a scented candle or incese to create a relaxing mood.
- Choose what kind of treatment you’d like to do beforehand and gather all the necessary tools and ingredients, place them on a specialtable or bamboo tray to make it feel more authentic. Some special tools are:
- Facials - Special facials from your favorite skin care line of products.
- Fresh towels.
- Toners.
- Cotton pads soaked in water or rosewater and crushed cucumber to place over your eyes during the treatment.
- Special round facial sponges for cleansing your skin prior to facial and after.
- Begin by removing all make-up including eye-makeup with your usual cleanser. Rinse with tepid water. Then soak a hand towel in lukewarm water, wring it out so that it is just slightly damp and place over your face for about ten seconds.
- Next, apply your facial treatment.
- Place the cotton pads soaked in rosewater over your eyes as you lay down somewhere comfortable while your facial is taking place. Let it sit for 15 minutes or more. Give yourself enough time to truly relax and for the ingredients to work the skin.
- When the time is up, remove the cotton pads, and rinse facial off with tepid water and the facial sponges. Take care to thoroughly rinse all product from your skin without tugging or srubbing the skin. Pat the skin dry with a fresh towel and then soak another fresh towel in warm water, wring it out and place it gently over your entire face.
- Next use a mild (alcohol-free) facial toner, avoid the eye area.
- Finish with a luxurious facial moisturizer, patting gently over your entire face.
When cleaning up keep all of the items in the same place together so that you can easily do another facial again soon. Enjoy!

Those who have been blessed and cursed with oily skin have probably tried everything they could get their hands on to make their skin act more normal, less shiny and overall less oily. The fact is that oily skin can only be managed, not changed or “cured”, as is best handled gently. Many people with oily skin tent to use harsh drying toners and lotions to get their skin to behave more normally only to discover that their skin is still oily and now irritated, dry on the surface and flaky. This is a common error that can wreak havoc with the skin over time if the irritation continues. The best way to handl oily skin is through gentle skin care products, non-drying but not too emollient either. Oily skin does not need any added moisturizer unless dryness occurs in the winter months at which point a light oil-free moisturizer will work nicely.
The best way to manage oily skin is with a powder foundation, powder blus and oil blotting facial tissues.

The following are some tips to starting a skin care regime:
- Do research and know what are some of the important active ingredients to look for and what they do for a particular skin type. Research on Dermatologist websites and credible skin care resources to gather a consensus of which ingredients work for your particular problem areas.
- Try one new product for a week or two at a time so that you can determine if a product is working for you or if it is causing irratiation or break-outs. Many people buy a whole skin care line which contains countless ingredients and try all of the products at once. When a problem arises such as breakouts, dryness, or a rash, they don’t know which product or ingredient is causing the problem and may end up discontinuing some very good products just because they assume the whole line is not workingn for them. Finding the right products and combination of them takes time and patience.
- Purchase skin care products that come with a money back guarantee so that in case a product does not meet your expectations you can return it for a full refund.
- Know your skin! Think about your target problem area and look for products that address those specifically.
- Remember also that your skin’s needs change as seasons change if you live in an area where there are seasonal changes. You may be combatting oil in the summer and dryness in the winter. Don’t keep using the same products for both seasons. You may need to change to more moisturizing products in the winter and possibly add some products such as an eye cream to keep the delicate skin under the eyes soft and supple. In summer, lighten up on the moisture if you are oily. There are a lot of very good leightweight moisturizers on the market and many containing sunscreen. Use the sunscreen everyday during summer, winter, fall and spring.
- Try to get or buy samples from skin care that interst you, enough to ty for a week or two.
- And finally, try not to fall for over-hyped products that promise things too good to be true. Stick to basic needs: Cleaner, toner, moisturizers, exfoliates, sunscreen and then speicialy products such as blemish-control, eye cream and anti-oxident serums.
